Nichidai Japanese Study Tour (Part 2)

The students from Nichidai Junior High School were with us for 3 long weeks of fun and games … and of course, learning English! We would like to show you the what they all got up to during the 2nd week they spent with us. It was another exciting and exhausting week, and there were SO many activities to get through. It all began with a trip to Australia Zoo. Let’s take a look …

First up on the agenda – feeding the kangaroos!

Next … the CROC show!

And finally, what trip to Aussie Zoo would be complete without holding a koala?

Today was an exhausting but FUN surf lesson at Maroochydore beach! First, training …

Then it was off to the water to put the training to the test. Check out how good they were!

With no energy left, they made their way back out of the water.

Thank you to the surf coaches. All of the students had a blast!

The next day, our students met up with their classmates in Noosa to take on the huge task of walking all the way through Noosa National Park. It was a long trek filled with beautiful views, beautiful beaches and beautiful nature!

Perfect beaches …

I can’t believe we all made it to the top. Wow, that was hard work!

Our students joined again with their classmates in Noosa to learn a few things about how to be safe at the beach. Learning about swimming between the flags and what to do in a rip, it wasn’t long before they were in the water putting these things into practice.

After the classes, it was into the water …

Next, our students got to have fun with some boards!

Finally, it was time to get out of the water and head for the ice-cream shop! Mmmmm …

A good week is a week that ends with ice-cream!

Stay tuned for the final action-packed week that our Nichidai Junior High School students spent at Lexis Maroochydore.

Until next time …

Nichidai Junior High School (Sunshine Coast)

At the Sunshine Coast campus, we welcomed 20 excited students all the way from Nichidai Junior High School in Yokohama, Japan. They are here for three PACKED weeks where they will learn English through fun activities, explore the Sunshine Coast, and take part in some action packed activities, games, and excursions. A tour around Noosa, beach games, and mountain biking down Mt. Tinbeerwah, are just some of the activities they enjoyed last week. Let’s take a look at some of the amazing times the students have had …

It was a bit of a miserable welcome to the ‘Sunshine’ Coast, with rain for most of the week. But that didn’t stop a good tour of Noosa! We traveled up north to visit Hastings Street (the place to be in Noosa!), check out the views at Noosa Spit, and finally join the Noosa Nichidai students on top of Mt. Tinbeerwah. Amazingly, the rain actually stopped at each destination long enough for our students to get out and take in the surroundings! Here are some of the highlights …

With luck on our side we hiked up Mt. Tinbeerwah during a short pocket of dry weather. We finally reached the top to join up with the Noosa crew and be greeted with a breath-taking and misty view of the Sunshine Coast!

Maroochydore beach is a favourite spot for our students. Although they have been unable to swim this week due to strong swells, they have been having the time of their lives playing various games on the beach. Here are some of the games they played …

Then it was into the games! The games included capture the flag …

And frisbee …

Although, some preferred other activities …

Whatever the activity, a very good time was had by everyone. They couldn’t wait to come back!

Our students were given a treat this week, with our favourite didgeridoo instructor, Scott, coming to teach them how to make some serious sounds on the didgeridoo … and he did not disappoint! Showing them some amazing sounds, breathing techniques, and teaching it all in such an imaginative way, our students very quickly took to the didgeridoo, producing some unique sounds of their own. Let’s take a look at some of the action …

First was the introduction and a demonstration on how the Aboriginals made paint …

We found that you can play the didgeridoo with just about any tube … including a vacuum cleaner!!

Next it was the students’ turn …

As you can see, the students had heaps and heaps of fun and did an amazing job!

With the weather not on our side, we ventured out for a mountain biking expedition  anyway. After a safety explanation, a helmet check and a test run on the bikes, we were all set to go. Because the forest was too wet for riding, we followed the road down to the bottom and soon found ourselves on a winding road, cut-off from any traffic. It was all downhill from there! What an adventure and what a fun day out.

First, it was time for instructions and safety, and we all got dressed up (helmets too)!

Next came the test ride, just to make sure everything was okay with the bikes and riders.

Then we were off!

We ditched the vests and made our way down a biking road to the bottom.

A good way to end the week! Our students were exhausted but had an amazing week or activities.

Stay tuned to see more of the excitement as our students take a day trip to Australia Zoo, learn how to surf, take a walk along the beautiful Noosa National Park, and practice beach safety and surf life saving. There’s plenty more action to come, and we’re only halfway! Our students are having such a GREAT time, and we trust they will enjoy the rest of their stay. So, what’s next for our students? You’ll have to wait and see …

Until next time …
