Happy Birthday to Takahiro

On Monday we welcomed 11 new students from Japan, Germany, Lichtenstein, Austria and France. We also noticed it was Takahiro’s birthday so we surprised him with a cake and a beautiful rendition of “Happy Birthday” sang by students from all over the world.

We hope you all enjoy your time with us here at Lexis English Maroochydore!!

What makes Australia so exciting?

The desire for adventure!

GV Sunshine Coast student Domenica discovers the wonders of Australia…

Here in the land of sea,  sun,  sand and  surf, is an amazing travel experience that everyone should do before they die.

There is a wide choice of exciting trips, it all depends of which kind of adventurer you are…

To start, a spectacular drive in the land down under of Victoria: The Great Ocean Road. A superb road along the South–East coast that stretches from Geelong to Portland, for about 400Km passing through lots of pretty maritime towns like Torquay, with its world’s famous Bells Beach, Lorne, Anglesea, Apollo Bay and the luxuriant Great Otway National Park where the lush rainforest hugs the wonderful Southern Ocean. Besides white sandy beaches and breathtaking views, you can also enjoy swimming and surfing, or why not to go for a bush walk through the Otways spotting koalas, or just relaxing at the lookouts listening to the “bondi”. The trip leads you to the unique, breathtaking scenery of the 12 Apostles: a fantastic rock formation as “pillars” standing along the shore up to 70 metres high,  will make your experience absolutely unforgettable. The massive waves breaks with all their power on those pillars shaping, eroding and changing their future shapes

Another must-do is drive the Stuart Highway: from the Top End of Darwin, to Port Augusta in South Australia, including the Red Centre. It is an amazing road trip of about 4400Km, one way ahead!!!

You can really experience with your own eyes the wilderness and the vastness of Australia, driving through the enchanting Litchfield and Kakadu National Parks. On the hottest days, when you think that the Sun is killing you and all you wish is to do is find some fresh water, you’ll be surprised by the creeks and  waterfalls that you’ll find on the way. Once in the Red Centre, where the temperature in Summer reaches 45 degrees at midday, you’ll be rapt by the magical surroundings of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. That’s it! The massive red rock in the middle of nowhere that seems to cuddle the beautiful, blue sky and the white clouds around, seem to be ships, flying around it: it’s Uluru!!! Simply amazing!

Driving down to S.A. why not to visit the incredible town of Coober Pedy: with its world’s famous opal mines you’ll fall in love with the “underground life” and above all, with the lovely, wonderful stones, “the painted ladies”, that place Australia in first place as opal exporter!

There is more and more, but you should find your own inspiration and get started!

Bruna Sousa – Student Testimonial

We asked Brazilian student Bruna to tell us about her experiences in Australia and as a student at Global Village Sunshine Coast.

I’m studying at Global Village because it’s an esteemed and globally known school.

The school provides several kinds of recreation every week. Besides that, this school is located in a good place, near many interesting places.

I have met lots of students from different countries and this helped me a lot to improve my english.

It’s hard to choose what I most enjoy here in Australia, because each moment is unique and I try to enjoy each one in a different way.

The english course definitely helped me a lot. The classes are so dynamic and so nice. The homestay I am at has helped my english to get better.

I’m so happy with the result of my choice: to study here!

Students Trip of a Lifetime

Hey Mates!

This short journey I’m writing about is almost a month ago, the time I left the GV school :(

In the meantime I’ve found accommodation and job as assistant designer and I’m fine, thx … :)

Truly I tell you, we (Johan, Iwo, Kristin, Kirsten, Lukas and me) went to Rainbow Beach for skydiving and from there straight to Fraser Island and we had the most exciting weekend, we’ve ever had.

I think this a good occasion to thank to our driver, Iwo who’s been driving his 4WD carefully and is unbelievably professional.

I know a lot of you guys have already been to Fraser, but if you haven’t been there, make sure you find some mates willing to skydive with you, hire a 4WD and try to combine skydiving with Fraser, I’m convinced you won’t regret it.

Cheers Mates!

Marius

Martha’s Farewell

After 45 weeks of study at GV Caloundra and Maroochydore campuses, Friday was time for Martha to say goodbye.

Her hard work paid off as she finished her study in the Upper Intermediate level. Her Classmates and teacher Andy threw a goodbye party and presented Martha with a special card signed by everyone.

Congratulations Martha, we wish you all the best in the future.

Maroochydore, the place to be!

On Tuesday Andy gave the Upper Intermediate class the job of coming up with a way to make Maroochydore, not Mooloolaba, the place to be on the Sunshine Coast. Here is what Remo, Kristin, Junko and Martha came up with:

Today we had to make a little presentation about how to make Maroochydore more attractive to young people. First we wanted to do some research in the computer room. But when we were there, I looked out of the window and I saw the river mouth of the Maroochydore River, which was  low tide at that moment.  I could see the sandbank, so I thought it would be nice to create something huge and unique. Something that the Australian people have never seen before - a massive free-time and nightclub complex on stilts on the water with a courtesy boat. The other team members, Kristin and Junko agreed. I started to draw a picture to stir their imagination. In the middle of our work, we were joined by Martha. The girls started to make a program for our party Island. Kristin came up with a name for our project:

Treasure Pleasure Island

Farewells and Happy Birthdays!

On Friday GV Maroochydore had to say goodbye to 5 Saudi students as they start their Helicopter Flight Ops; Meshari, Meshal, Naif, Jack and Aziz. We also had say goodbye to Marion from the Intermediate B class.

Friday was also Patty, Rika and Stephanie’s Birthday. As you can imagine there was lots to celebrate!

Farewell Global Village Sunshine Coast

It is Friday, October, the 22nd! Today is probably my last day at Global Village English School – a good occasion to say “Good bye!”.

But first of all I’d like to thank you all for these absolutely wonderfull 4 weeks. Now … I could tell you a lot of stories about snuggling koalas, amazing pelicans or steep paths to the top of Mount Coolum. Instead, I’ve uploaded some photos to not waste your time…

What is the next thing I want to do? I’m going to stay here in Maroochydore and look for work. If I get a job, I’ll maybe come back to school. If I’m not successful I’ll travel up North to Cairns.

See you mates! Have fun and always remember to start the day by speaking English and keep on speaking until saying “Good night!”!

Greetings, Marius

A Message From Sonja

So what am I supposed  to write..

My seven weeks at Global Village are over now. I enjoyed every day at the Sunshine Coast. Whale Watching, Fraser Island, Noosa or just relaxing at the beach in Maroochydore or Mooloolaba. All the crazy weekends with all the amazing people :)

School was great as well. I loved my first class and I loved my new class and of course I had the best teacher ever :P (thanks for the Pizza!)

It was a nice place to study English and I loved all the activities!

I love and miss you guys :) keep the party going!

Sonja.

University Brings Free Pizza!

Today we were lucky enough to have a visitor; Liani, from the University of the Sunshine Coast. She came to talk to students about studying at the university and the pathways available to Global Village students. Most importantly she bought free pizza!

If you are interested in studying at the University of the Sunshine Coast there are plenty of brochures and DVD’s available on the reception desk.

Lots Of Goodbyes!

This week we say goodbye to many of our special students. Many classes had parties this afternoon to bid their classmates farewell.

Picture: Carolin (Germany), Yukimi, Yuzue, Yasuko (Japan) Bader, Meshari, Aziz and Mohammed (Saudi Arabia) on the balcony for a farewell photo. Missing is Ryo (Japan) Sultan (Saudi Arabia)

Picture: Jonathan (Switzerland) got a photo taken yesterday as he is enjoying a well deserved trip to Fraser Island.

Some students even had a picnic in Cotton Tree Park in the beautiful sunshine.

Oh What a feeling…

Patrick’s lucky star is shining.

Armed with his recently gained FCE Certificate, Patrick has just landed a job with a company in Switzerland that requires staff members to communicate in English. No wonder he is jumping for joy. Congratulations Patrick. We are all happy for you and wish you the very best.

Claudia and Angelica Leave Us Once Again

Today GV Maroochydore farewelled two special Colombian students, Claudia and Angelica.

The girls have studied at GV on and off for a long time, they will be greatly missed, especially their loud singing and love of candy. As a departing gift the girls were both given lollie bags and had a party with fellow students on the balcony.

Marcel’s job.

Marcel has found himself a job at ‘Monster Kebabs’. Guess what? It’s  Marcel’s first job ever! I took a photo of Marcel working last night so he can prove to his father that he has a job. His father won’t believe it other wise. Marcel is really happy he is working but he wants next Wednesday afternoon off to play soccer against GV Noosa. He is the captain of GV Maroochydore and he really wants to be there. Perhaps his teacher can write a note for him to explain his absence from work. Will he or won’t he play next week?

Good on y’a  Marcel and you make a mean kebab as well!

Friday Goodbye Party

At GV Sunshine Coast we know how to throw the best goodbye parties! This week and early next week we farewell Vanessa and Claudia from Switzerland and Ryohei from Japan. There was lots of party food as students enjoyed the beautiful sunshine on the school’s balcony.

Claudia and Vanessa are leaving…

One of the best things about studying English at GV is that you get to meet new friends and this is certainly true for Claudia andVanessa. The girls struct up a friendship instantly and have had wonderful adventures together. I’m sure they are sad to be leaving and it’ll be sad to sad goodbye to the girls because they are such lovely students.

Vanessa’s Visit to Australia Zoo

On last Saturday I went to Australian Zoo, home of the Crocodile Hunter. Another student from Global Village accompanied me. We met near  Global Village in Maroochydore. First we drove by bus to Australian Zoo. It took nearly 40 minutes to reach our destination. We fed some elephants and watched the “Wildlife Warriors Show”. It was  very exciting. We saw a lot of diffrent birds, snakes and crocodiles. After this show we had lunch in a food court and we relaxed for a few of minutes. It was a very beautiful day. The sun shone the whole day long. After our lunch we started to see other animals. There was a place, where we could touch koalas. The coat from them was really soft. I liked this feeling ^^ . We saw some other animals like dingos, tigers, emus, echidnas, tortoises (really big turtles) and many many more. But the most exciting thing was taking some photos with kangoroos. We could then feed and touch too. We drive back to Maroochydore by the same bus. It was a nice trip. I enjoyed it very much and I would go again anytime.
