GV Maroochydore Does It’s Own Amazing Race

Friday afternoon GV Maroochydore students competed in a special competition that saw them completing puzzles and running around Maroochydore finding clues and treats.

The game went as followed:

Step 1.

Find out which staff member (person who works at GV Maroochydore) has a birthday today. Get the next clue from this person.

Step 2.

Do the puzzle and get Maddy to check it, then receive your next clue.

Step 3.

Go to the movie theatre (Cinema) at Sunshine Plaza and find a movie timetable (guide). Take one and hold onto it.

Step 4.

Find Maddy at the shop called Smiggle. When inside the shop you must find a “Link Eraser” after you have found this you will receive your next clue.

Step 5.

Go to the cafe “verve” on Duporth Avenue to get a chocolate soccer ball. You will then get your next clue.

Step 6.

Go to Cotton Tree Park, near the Aquatic Centre is a Basketball ring, the first team to both score a goal will be the winners!

After the last step was completed students enjoyed a free BBQ in Cotton Tree Park

Thanks to Tribal Travel who provided the amazing prizes, our winners are off to see the whales in Hervey Bay and spend a weekend in Noosa, lucky girls!

Master Chef Bi…

Bi has just scored a TRIBAL TOURS $50 voucher for cooking up a storm.

The judges, the teachers that is, gave her the thumbs up. Apparently Bi’s first attempt to bake a cake failed so she stayed up to 2am cooking. What an effort! Congartulations Bi, you did a great job and by the way, the judges want your recipe and thank you.

AND THE WINNERS ARE…..

GV Maroochydore took back the shield yesterday in what was a very close match against GV Noosa. The game was tied at nil all, and it wasn’t till the last 10 minutes of the game the first and only goal was scored. The boys played an amazing 1.5 hour game, luckily scoring the winning goal just as the sun went down and the ball disappeared into the darkness. Both teams played well given the conditions, some true “Brazilian style” choosing to play barefoot.

A big thank you to the Noosa and Maroochydore students who volunteered to referee throughout the game. After the game both schools enjoyed pizzas, after a long game without any breaks they didn’t last long!

Well done to the Maroochydore team – the first team to win for our new school! The plaque will be displayed in our school until we play again next year.

When English Lessons End, Cooking Pancake Lessons Begin!

Monday Afternoon was the perfect time for GV Maroochydore students to make pancakes!

There were so many students making pancakes the pans were never empty. Some where big, some small, some round and many messy but luckily they all tasted good with ice cream and other yummy toppings.

The Worlds Easiest Pancake Recipe:

1 Egg

1 Cup of Milk

1 Cup of Self Raising Flour

A pinch of Sugar

Mix all ingredients together until all lumps have disappeared.

Eat with your favourite toppings! Students liked ice-cream, jam, golden syrup, lemon and sugar.

A lesson at the PLAZA

Students had an interesting lesson at the Plaza where they had several tasks to complete, but as you can see there was time for fun and games as well.

Andy very generously bought the students some ”scratchies” to try their luck. You can probably see in some photos students are scratching their tickets to see if they have won a prize.

Special Weekend Trip!

You will have free time on Saturday and Sunday to explore Brisbane and be back home in time for dinner on Sunday.

There are limited places on the bus so book now! Maddy will be back on Monday or leave a message with Patty to make sure you dont miss out on the fun!

Friday the 13th – Afternoon Class

Students from different levels were grouped together to participate in an activity based on Friday the 13th.

Sometimes on Friday afternoons classes are combined and students across levels have a chance to work through quizzes and language activities together. It gives students who don’t normally work together the opportunity to share their ideas and practise their communicative skills. In the first photo, Caio (Upper-Intermediate) is working with George (Intermediate), Luis (Pre-Intermediate A) and Andre (Pr-Intermediate B). In the second photo, Bruno (Pre-Intermediate B) is working with Jose (Pre-Intermediate A), Saxon (Elementary) and Jesus (Elementary). Chris (Intermediate), Crystal (Upper Intermediate), Paulo (Pre-Intermediate A) and Bi (Pre-Intermediate B) are working together in the third photo. Students look forward to these occasions as they are both enjoyable and educational.

    Caramel Fruit Fudge Slice

Was on the GV Maroochydore menu today! Students stayed back after classes to join in making this super sweet slice. While the girls were the ones who finished off the dish they did get some help crushing the biscuits from the strong Brazilian boys, unfortunately they didnt get to hang around long enough to taste test. Lucky there was enough to make two, the second plate awaits the sweet toothed students tomorrow.

    Jewelery Making Fun

    Marcel’s job.

Marcel has found himself a job at ‘Monster Kebabs’. Guess what? It’s  Marcel’s first job ever! I took a photo of Marcel working last night so he can prove to his father that he has a job. His father won’t believe it other wise. Marcel is really happy he is working but he wants next Wednesday afternoon off to play soccer against GV Noosa. He is the captain of GV Maroochydore and he really wants to be there. Perhaps his teacher can write a note for him to explain his absence from work. Will he or won’t he play next week?

Good on y’a  Marcel and you make a mean kebab as well!

    What Better Way…

To spend a Wednesday afternoon! The GV Sunshine Coast soccer stars had another practice match before they meet their rivals a week from now. There’s not many places you can play soccer in the sunshine by the beach in the middle of winter. These photos show just how lucky we are to be in Maroochydore and able to play soccer all year round.
